Trick Shot
Not sure if I should've focused more on the girl. Either way I'm very hapy with how this one came out.
After all I want the viewers concentration to be on the game, like the girl taking the shot.

Spotted the guys Atari shot, and I had to pause, framed everything up and snapped this shot.
This one was taken a bit later in the night, after a beer or and a double whiskey or two, the Shack had also filled out a bit more too.

I get the feeling that plenty pictures uploaded for this pool bar project are going to have titles as lame as this one. Please excuse them.

Smoothy
I can't help but wonder what was in that Smoothy.
After taking the picture I wasn't quite sure what to think of her and her stare. Did she object to me taking the photo?
Pentax Mx, didn't write down any settings.
Kodak 200 pushed to 400.
waiting for the robots
Taken on Dad's trusty Pentax S2,
Loaded with 800ASA Fujifilm.
I'm reasonably happy with these results. I certainly want to use 800ASA more if its going to produce pictures like this.
I think with this image I could've stopped it down a notch, and used a slower speed. I think the DOF is too shallow for my subject.
Or do you think that I've just focused on the wrong thing?

A scene at the night market at the Labia, a family owned independent cinema in Cape Town. My Dad had done designed some of the newer screens, and got paid in part with tickets.

Good News
I must say I am quite please with how this one turned out too. Quite a few moments before I had seated myself at the bar, introduced myself and ordered a Millers with the change I had in my pocket. At first the bartender wanted to know why I wanted to take photographs, but I mentioned it was for a personal project and he seemed quite happy with that, even diving into a brief conversation about photography before getting back to his friend.
At first I was reluctant to shoot, but I figured that I had asked them if it was ok, and figured that I could save that as a "card" for later.
For this shot, I added my warming filter, that, for lack of a better description is etched cross ways across the surface, producing this 'sparkle' effect on light sources. I had used it before and I've grown quite found of it, but I had struggled to get good exposures with it in low light situations. This faster film seems to be the perfect remedy for that, like the two where born to be used together.
My goal with shooting at the shack in these conditions was mostly to get a black or dark background around my subjects. This I think has been the most successful shot taken at the Shack to date.

From the Bar
When I framed this one up I wanted to get the jug into frame, to show the view from the bar.
Like you're there, waiting for your buddy with a beer of your own before you hit the tables yourself.
I'm happy with this shot, although I'm surprised at how much of the scene was properly exposed.
I'd expected more darkness around the players and the table to make the game the center of attention and focus.

shooting
With the cost of the film I was using I was constantly waiting for the right shot, framed everything up and watched these guys play. I must admit I did hesitate when these guys where better positioned, and at one time, there was another group playing on the table in the foreground, and everything had lined up beautifully. I hesitated hoping for something better. At least now I know what to look for, and hopefully next time I'll be locked and loaded.
I wanted to try a higher f.stop, to get more detail in the shot, while there was movement on the table. I think reasonably well and captured what I wanted.

Taken on the 14 Sep 2011 at my regular haunt, the Shack.
Cheap drinks, cheap pool and good company. Its easy to get a few games in on a quiet night. This is where I cut my teeth playing pool, and so I figured it should be appropriate that this is where I cut my teeth with my pool bar project. So I've been using this venue as a testing ground for various brands and speeds of film, along with the lenses in my collection.
